Very good, David. I think you're a very fine example of the lesson we find in Avot 4:1…

Ben Zoma said: Who is wise? He who learns from all men, as it is written (Psalm 119:99) "I have gained understanding from all my teachers."

We can all learn something, even from those who would see us as their enemies.

Thanks for the comment, Amber!
We westerners typically have this need to analyze, dissect, and put everything in a box, but I'm like you in regards to being at peace with not understanding.
Dawkins wrote, "One of the truly bad effects of religion is that it teaches us that it is a virtue to be satisfied with not understanding."
I don't think he articulated it accurately. I don't tout virtue regarding my lack of understanding. Though I may be content with such mystery, I still strive to more fully comprehend the beauty of the Unknown - things truly beyond what I'll ever grasp.

I can't say I disagree with his description of the Old Testament diety. The energy of creation, to me, is so much bigger than the story we are being told. I am at peace with not understanding, with accepting the unexplainable, the ineffable.
Great write up, thought provoking.

I have noticed that brewing coffee sometimes smells...well...skunky and off, but when it's done brewing (and before it gets that burned smell) I love it. I never thought about the odor connection until now. As I was reading, I thought, "Oh my god, maybe I like the smell of skunks, too!". I think I grossed myself out.
